According to afsanehezendegimedia, the Busan Film Festival recently announced the presence of this film, a film that narrates the visual memories of Samadian and Kiarostami’s three-decade joint journey on the roads of Iran and is considered Samadian’s second long collaboration with visual relics of Kiarostami after the documentary ,76 Minutes and 16 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami
The 31st Busan International Film Festival, which will be held in South Korea from October 6 to 15, 2026 (14 to 23 Mehr 1405), will host the world premiere of a new documentary by Seifollah Samadian titled “On the Road with Kiarostami” in the Documentary Film Competition (Wide Angle). This 88-minute film was made to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Abbas Kiarostami’s death, and Samadian, in addition to directing, producing, filming, and editing, is also responsible for it
Samadian, who previously made the documentary “۷۶ Minutes and 16 Seconds with Abbas Kiarostami” – a film that had its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival and was later screened in over a hundred international screenings – has now compiled a longer documentary, visual memoirs of three decades of shared travel with Kiarostami in the form of ten episodes. Each episode narrates an independent journey with its own atmosphere and attempts to provide an intimate and rarely seen look at the personality of this world-famous director through images of the roads and stops along the way
The documentary features prominent figures such as Jafar Panahi (with a special appearance since 2002), Tahereh Ladanian, Shohreh Golparian, and artists from Japan such as Trio Nogami and Kimiko Onishi. The film is also dedicated to the memory of Hamideh Razavi, Kenzo Horokushi, Mohammad Ali Keshavarz, Hossein Rezaei, Mahbanu Darabi, and Ahmad Ahmadpour
Abdollah Ahmadpour, Hasna Ashourpour, Hossein Khadem, Adel Yaraqi, Fatemeh Ghorbani, and Morteza Farshbaf, along with other companions, have also depicted the human and geographical diversity of these road trips.
“Naghmeh Maghsoudloo” as assistant editor, “Masoud Sakhvatdoost” as composer, “Ansiyeh Maleki” as sound designer and mixer, in collaboration with Hirad Alavifard and Elham Latifi, “Saed Nikzat” as color correction supervisor, and “Kamran Saharkhiz” as color correction are among the technical elements of this film. Digital laboratory work was done at Roshana Studio, and “Soheil Samadian” was in charge of the English translation of the subtitles in collaboration with Shaida Diani. The poster and typography of the title are by “Ebrahim Haghighi”, the public relations of the film are in charge of “Zahra Rad” and the executive producer is “Sahand Samadian”. This documentary was produced at the Tasvir Film Center with the cultural support of the Kiarostami Foundation and White Dreams Film
In this film, using archival images and shots recorded in the heart of Iranian nature, Samadian has tried to portray Kiarostami’s personal, intimate, and unseen moments, as well as his deep connection with “the road,” “the car,” and “nature” as the two main motifs of his cinema. The Busan International Film Festival’s documentary competition section hosts works with experimental and personal approaches from around the world every year
