Main Competition
Golden Lion for Best Film: “All Beauty and Blood” by Laura Poteras from the United States
Silver Lion for Grand Jury Prize: “The Saint of Life” by Alice Diop
Silver Lion for Best Director: Luca Guadagnino for “Bones and All”
Special Jury Prize: “It’s Not a Bear” by Jafar Panahi
Best Actor: Colin Farrell for “The Banshee of Inisheer”
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett for “Tar”
Best Newcomer (Marcelo Mastroianni Award): Taylor Russell for “The Banshee of Inisheer”
Best Screenplay: Martin McDonagh for “The Banshee of Inisheer”
Future Lion (Best First Film of the Festival): “The Saint of Life” by Alice Diop from France
Horizons Section
Best Film: “The Third World War” by Houmen Sidi
Best Director: Titza Covey and Rainer Frimmel for Vera
Special Jury Prize: Damien Kosor for Bread and Salt
Audience Award in Horizons: Soudadeh Kaadan’s “Nizwa” from Syria
Best Screenplay: Fernando Gonzoni for Blanquita
Best Actor: Mohsen Tanabandeh for World War III
Best Actress: Vera Gemma for Vera
This year, the jury for the main competition was chaired by Julianne Moore, and included Leila Hatami, Kazuo Ishiguro, Leonardo DiCastanzo, Audrey Divan and Rodrigo Soroguin
The Horizons jury also included Isabelle Cochet, Laura Bispouri, Antonio Campos, Sofia Gemma and Edward Winthrop
Winners in the side categories
There were also winners in other categories. In the Horizons Extra section, the People’s Choice Award for Best Film went to Iraq’s “The Hanging Gardens” by Ahmed Yassin Al-Daraji
The Venice Days side section also awarded Georgia Oakley’s “Blue Jeans” with the Audience Award and Graham Foy’s “The Maiden” with the Future Cinema Award
The 37th Venice Film Festival Critics’ Week awarded David Wagner’s “Aismeier” the Best Film award and honored Theo Montoya’s “Angel 69”
The Venice FIPRESCI Award went to Santiago Mitre’s “Argentina, 1985,” a comedy-drama about the famous trial of Argentina’s military leaders in 1985
The FIPRESCI Horizons/Critics’ Week award went to Maqbool Mubarak’s “Autobiography.” In this film, the director portrays a portrait of two generations under one roof, and in this way, he masterfully examines the painful period of transition in his country
The red carpet for the ceremony began at 6:00 local time, and the award ceremony began at 7:00 (9:30 Iranian time). A press conference was held by the jury at 8:00
