Films to be screened at the 2025 Venice Film Festival announced

The Venice Film Festival lineup has been announced, revealing that Del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Begonia,” Benny Safdie’s “The Shredder,” and Luca Guadagnino’s “After the Hunt” are among the films in attendance

According to afsanehezendegimedia , citing Variety, Venice Film Festival Artistic Director Alberto Barbera introduced a mix of high-profile films from famous directors and starring big stars alongside smaller films with high potential. These films will compete for the Golden Lion at the 82nd edition of the film festival

This season, new works by directors such as Kathryn Bigelow, Guillermo del Toro, Noah Baumbach, Mona Fastold, Luca Guadagnino, Yorgos Lanthimos, Olivier Assayas, Park Chan-wook, Benny Safdie, etc. are present at the festival

This year, Netflix will have a strong presence in Venice with three films in competition, including Kathryn Bigelow’s politically charged “House of Dynamite,” Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama “J. Kelly,” starring George Clooney, and Guillermo del Toro’s “Frankenstein,” a new take on the classic monster movie starring Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, and Mia Goth

Art platform Mobi is also at the festival with the festival’s opening film, Paolo Sorrentino’s “La Gracia.” The special broadcaster will also have Jim Jarmusch’s three-part film “Father, Mother, Sister, Brother,” starring Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver, and South Korean director Park Chan-wook’s 12th feature film, “There Is No Other Choice,” at the Lido

“The Sun Rises on Us All,” directed by veteran director Kan Shangjun, and “The Girl,” the directorial debut of Taiwanese superstar Shu Ke, are other films from Asia in the Lido competition section

Notable films in the out-of-competition section include Julian Schnabel’s star-studded crime mystery “In Dante’s Hands,” starring Oscar Isaac; Gus Van Sant’s hostage thriller “Dead Man’s Wire,” starring Bill Skarsgård, Colman Domingo, and Al Pacino; Sofia Coppola’s documentary “The Mark by Sophia,” and Werner Herzog’s documentary “Ghost Elephants”

This year, Alexander Payne will head the jury for the competition section, and will be joined by Muhammad Rasoulof, Brazil’s Fernanda Torres, France’s Stephane Brizé, Italy’s Maura Del Perro, Romania’s Cristian Mungiu, and Chinese actor Zhao Tao to announce the winners of the Golden and Silver Lions
