Gotham Awards Best Picture goes to One Battle After Another

According to The Legend of Medea’s Life, citing Variety, when the Gotham Awards winners were announced, “One Battle After Another” won the award for Best Feature Film
The 35th annual Gotham Awards, which kicked off the film awards season, was a night of surprises, with Paul Thomas Anderson’s action epic “One Battle After Another” winning the top prize for best feature film, one of six nominations for the film
Jafar Panahi, the biggest winner of the night, received the International Feature Film Award, Original Screenplay, and Director Award for “A Simple Accident”
The awards came as the Gotham Film and Media Institute removed the budget cap for the third year in a row for the awards, which previously only allowed films with production budgets of less than $35 million to compete
Winners of Best Feature Film include “Spotlight” (2015), “Moonlight” (2016), and “Everything, Everywhere, All at Once” (2022), all of which eventually won the Academy Award for Best Picture
Among the surprises of the night were the independently distributed film “My Undesirable Friends: Part 1 – Last Flight to Moscow,” directed and produced by Julia Loktev, and A24’s “Pylon,” which won the adapted screenplay award for Harry Leighton in the writing category
All three acting awards were presented to actors who were not present at the ceremony. Supe Diriso won Best Actor for “My Father’s Shadow,” Wonmi Musako won Best Supporting Actor for “The Sinners,” and Abu Sangare won Best Actor for “The Story of Solomon”
In addition to the awards ceremony for the competition winners, the ceremony also honored a number of actors and filmmakers. Among them was Netflix’s “Frankenstein,” with director Guillermo del Toro, who thrilled the crowd with a shout of “Damn AI,” and Adam Sandler, who paid tribute to the film’s director, Noah Baumbach, with his comedic performance alongside “J. Kelly” co-writer Emily Mortimer
